Well, Twitter's a dumpster fire š„ Where to Next?
Where do you go when a man-child billionaire ruins your favorite online space?
I doubt that I need to elaborate much on the whole Twitter thing. Musk is nuts, and a lot of us are wanting to leave the platform for other spaces. Especially after today, when the Twitter Blue subscription gets you your very own Verified Checkmark. š¤®
So where do we go from here?
The most common platform I hear people moving to is Mastodon, a decentralized platform thatās juuuuuuuuuuuuuust similar enough to Twitter that a lot of people may feel comfortable there with a close circle of folks.
I made an account there, on the TTRPG-based server dice.camp, and my username is @beej@dice.camp if you wanna follow and be friends. It doesnāt matter what server youāre on to be friends and share hashtags. Just the ālocalā server feeds are separated.
The other Iām seeing a lot is cohost.org, and it sounds like a mix of LiveJournal, Twitter, and a little Substack thrown in for good measure. Itās ad-free and has no algorithmic āenhancementsā to the experience.
Weāve been able to get an active one for Geek to Geek Media (at https://cohost.org/geektogeekmedia), my @bjk username hasnāt been activated to post yet. So weāll see how it goes. But I think you can still follow me there. I think. Maybe. Probably. Try and see. Let me know.
Discord is always going to be a place for me, and I expect for you, too. Iām bjk#1337 on there, and I run 2 servers: North Alabama D&D and Geek to Geek Media.
And thereās always Facebook Groups and Redditā¦which areā¦well, theyāre Facebook Groups and Reddit. I donāt know if I can do that to myself.
Where are you going, if anywhere?
With all that said, I want to be on a platform with people I know and care about. Thatās why I pick any place to be, online and IRL.
If youāre branching out, where are you headed? Letās hang out!
