Free 5e Dragon Adventure & A Question
Here's a little something to say thank you for being so awesome: a free copy of my book, "The Dragon-Tower of Candlekeep."
Welcome to 2024, friends! What better way to ring in the new year than by getting something for free? (Read all the way to the bottom for another bonus!)
Because you’re a subscriber and I love you, here’s a discount link to get my awesome book The Dragon-Tower of Candlekeep for free. Of all my D&D writing, I think this one is my favorite because you get to explore the inside of a dragon’s body (and because Ed Greenwood himself gave me permission to use the dragon Fyrentennimar in the adventure. How cool is that?!)
You can click the button or the image below, and the discount should automatically be applied. Let me know if you have any problems.
What To Do About This Substack?
I’ve been thinking a lot about the direction to take with publishing lately, and that also means these emails.
First, there’s the elephant in the room: Substack and their Nazi problem. Platformer has a great look at it and explains why that publication is leaving Substack because of it.
My question to you is this: is Substack’s response enough to stay here? Or should I move these posts to another platform? Let me know what you think.
The second thing is naming/branding. Currently, all of my DM’s Guild DTRPG content is put out under my name: BJ Keeton. I would like to change that into a publishing brand name like “Fat Dragon Games” or “Kabouter Press.”
Right now, I am looking at using Vorpal’s Words. Both for the title of these emails and as a publishing moniker/business name. It makes me giggle because it’s a pun on vorpal swords, get it? I love puns, y’all.
I have the URL already, vorpalswords.com, redirecting to a Coming Soon page for Project 2023b, my WIP cyberpunk-fantasy game.
I just kind of have to bite the bullet and make it all official, you know? Do the announcement, create a branded website, socials, all that. What do you think?
Plus, if I’m being honest here, I have never been a huge fan of the Magic & Monsters name, and I don’t think it’s been great branding for the content I create, both email and RPG.
Anyway, I would love some feedback on what you’d like to see from me and how to enhance these emails overall to bring the most value to you as readers.
Another Bonus!
I am working on a small title for DTRPG for system-agnostic lists for DMs to use. One of them is d4 Quirky Tavern Patrons, and I want you to have it first before anyone else! Enjoy!
I think you should go for it with making the official name switch! As far as Substack, I am personally staying on the platform because a lot of the creators I like are still here. But if this newsletter moves I will follow.
