...runDisney, a Weight Loss Memoir, and a D&D Zines!

Hey, friendos! It’s been a while, but I wanted to say hello and give you a couple of previews of content that’s coming up this year.

Geek Fitness is…Back?

In just under a year, I turn 40 years old. Yikes. I can’t believe it. But I bring this up because I am using that as a catalyst to get back into shape after gaining a bunch of weight and losing a lot of fitness over the past couple of years.

So…my plan for my 40th birthday is to do the runDisney Dopey Challenge ON my 40th birthday. It’s gonna be awesome. Or terrible. Or both.

Either way, I intend to document that as much as I can across my out-of-pseudo-retirement blog Geek Fitness and the related Instagram account. I figure that will be good motivation.

Heck, it might even get me to bring the Geek Fitness Podcast out of retirement.

Weight Loss Memoir?

Years ago, I wrote a novel-length book about my weight loss from 310 to 155. It was about growing up fat, how I dealt with it, all the stigma, mental health issues, etc. that came with it.

And how I got into running and eventually became the fitness-obsessed, Chris Traeger-wannabe I was at the time. With the prospect of Dopey ahead of me, as well as the need to lose weight that I’ve put on during the past 4 trauma-filled years, I’ve been slowly revising that original draft.

I have no idea what’s going to come of it, whether it’ll be a serial podcast, self-published thing, series of newsletters, blog posts, whatever. But I think going through it will definitely be both cathartic and motivating.

And as I can share it with y'all, hopefully interesting. I did post two sections of chapters on the blog a while back, and I think you’ll get a kick out of them.

Running from Mexico to Germany with my Dad is a fun story of a trip to Disney World, and My Friend Mario is a total childhood recollection of how video games and running have always been a part of my life somehow.

Dungeons & Dragons!

Outside of Geek Fitness and Dopey training, I am working on a couple of D&D projects this year. The first one is tentatively titled Welcome to Estalia! Ogo Island Visitor’s Guide, and my writing partner and I are going to (hopefully) release it as a Zine that’s available in print and PDF before too much longer.

Because of the nature of that sort of thing, it’ll likely be crowdfunded, but since it’s a Zine and not a full 5e setting/campaign book (which we also have planned called Castle of the Dragonmage), it should be an easier mark to hit and produce.

It’s part of our upcoming Estalia setting that’s based on different JRPGs that we love, and this one will include setting info, player race options, and a few monsters (at least).

Here’s a very rough, working draft of a couple of pages:

A lot of previews and exclusives for this one will actually come through my Patreon for our podcast “Dragon Quest FM”, so if you’re not familiar with that, it’s worth checking out.

Well, that’s it for this time, friendos. Have a great day, and thanks for being so awesome. Let me know what you think.
